Six Unimportant Things About Me (Meme)

A fellow Photo Hunter, this one known as the teach (aka mary t on another of her blogs), tagged me for a meme that requires me to share six unimportant things/habits/quirks about me as well as do the following:-

- Link to the person that tagged you.

- Post the rules on your blog.

- Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.

- Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
-
Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

With the understanding that something about me that's 'unimportant' can be defined by it being something that I've hitherto thought to be too trivial to blog about, here are six unimportant things/habits/ quirks about moi (in no particular order):-

1. Pretty much all my life, I've been prone to having bouts of insomnia.

2. I use to try to literally count sheep in order to overcome my insomnia when I was younger.

3. In recent years, I taken to compiling mental movie lists (e.g., of Brigitte Lin Ching-Hsia movies that I've seen, my current top twenty favorite Hong Kong actresses, or the Milkyway Image movies I've seen thus far) or naming my current Arsenal first eleven (or, including the five substitutes allowed by the English Premier League, first sixteen) instead!

4. I prefer to feel good rather than look good -- and base my choice of clothing on this personal quirk (that, just this past weekend, a fellow female flatly told me was against nature as far as women are concerned -- and when I begged to differ, promptly accused me of being a lesbian! :<)

5. I prefer stripes and plaid patterns to floral ones (for clothes but also curtains and couches!).

6. For some reason, my ethnicity and/or nationality tends to get mis-identified pretty much every where I go. For example, in Hong Kong, I've been asked more than once "are you Japanese or Korean?" (as if I can't be anything else!) while on our recent visit to Taiwan, my mother and I frequently got misidentified as Japanese, regardless of whether we spoke Hokkien (a language that's actually very close to Taiwanese) or English! And if you're think this is "understandable", whither my also having been misidentified in the past as Ojibwa (by Utes), Hopi (Utes again), Navajo (by Hopi), Cochiti (by Cochiti), Americans (by Americans and Canadians), Welsh (by an Englishwoman from Birmingham!) and Tanzanian (by a Zambian man)???!!!

So... okay, I gotta ask: Are these things about me interesting and does anyone think that any of them are worth devoting entire blog entries about? If so, do let me know and maybe I might do just that in the future! ;b

Before that though, here's going ahead and (-- if truth be told -- not so randomly) tagging the following six bloggers for this meme (and hoping that they'll play along!):-

1. A. at A Changing Life

2. Alejna at Collecting Tokens

3. hd at Falling Stones Are Not Heavy

4. Glenn at A Pessimist is Never Disappointed

5. Willow at Morsels of Peach Souffle

6. sbk at Pictures, Thoughts and Comments

And should anyone else be inclined to try this meme, do please feel free to do so! :)

Ytsl, #1, 2, 4, 6 are all very interesting (not that #3 and 5 are not) and I think you should blog about them. Lot's of people suffer from insomnia and would like to hear your story. Also I wonder why you keep getting taken for another ethnicity other than the one you are... Thanks for doing the meme! Great job! :)

Thanks for the invite. I am not sure I will do it, though, as everything I can think of at the moment is either -- upon reflection -- worthy of a potential real future post should I get inspired again OR is too embarassing to share on my blog.

Well I could easily do 6 unimportant things, but the ones that immediately spring to mind would probably take up 6 lines and would certainly cure your insomnia :) I'll put my mind to it, and let you know when something happens :)

I am one who has the insomnia issue, too, sometimes...

Hi "the teach" --

Sounds like you enjoyed my responses to the meme and I'll take into account your comments regarding which of my revelations you found particularly interesting. :)

Hi Glenn --

Hope you'll give it a think. My initial reaction to the meme invitation was similar to yours but, ultimately, figured it would be harmless yet fun and interesting enough to do!

Hi a. --

Teeheehee at your reaction to my meme invitation! Again, hope that you'll put your mind along to it and that doing so will bear interesting fruit. :)

Hi TNChick --

In case it seems like otherwise, I don't *always* have insomnia but, well, last night was one night when I did... ;S

Hi Akiko --

What can I say other than.... great timing! :b

Mission accomplished! Actually it was harder than I thought, as these things often are :)

I agree with 'the teach' in that I'd like to hear more about your insomnia - I too have had it for years & haven't discovered a cure. I do get a lot of books read though.

Thank you for the meme invite and I will do it soon.

I never had insomnia and can't imagine how it would feel like. I too would like to hear more about it.

A quirk of yours that is interesting to me is how tactile you are :)

Hi A. --

Thanks for doing the meme! Took a quick look at it before I went to work today but will read it more slowly and carefully one more time before I comment on it on your blog! :)

Hi sbk --

Interesting that the insomnia revelation is attracting such, well, interest! Okay, will consider writing a blog entry about it in the near future.

Hi "eliza bennet" --

Hahahaha and hope people don't get the wrong picture as a result of your comments!!! Actually, was alluding in part to this tactile quirk of mine in my fourth revelation (i.e., about preferring to FEEL good rather than look good). But maybe I'll have to expand on this at some point! ;DDD

ysl,

Okay, done. Actually I had fun doing it :-)

Someone called you a lesbian? haha. Without seeing you I think that's kinda funny. Er, did you think it was funny? Maybe it's not funny. ;D

I'll think about doing this meme. It can't be easy to keep the # of uninteresting things to only 6. haha.

OK, it's up.

Hi sbk --

Glad you had fun doing the meme and thanks for the fun I got from reading what you wrote! :)

Hi Willow --

Yep! And it's not the first time either!! And yes, it sometimes can amuse. But this time around, it was rather annoying as the person doing the accusation/labelling meant for it to be insulting/dismissive. (I.e., "you're a lesbian, so your views don't count with regards to women"!!!!!! :<)

On a happier note: Congrats on successfully doing the meme! :)

Sorry I'm so slow to comment (again). Thanks for tagging me on this. I'll try to get around to it soon. ("Soon" is such a nice vague term...)

I tend to share your preferences in #4. While I like to dress up for special occasions, I'd rather be comfortable for my daily activities. And I can't be bothered to fuss with things like hairstyle or makeup. Those things take far too much time and energy.

I find it a shame that the woman you mentioned in #4 thinks of it as an insult to call a woman a lesbian. And absurd that she considers it female nature (as if lesbians are not female by nature) to make appearance a high priority. And if you want to talk about nature, it seems like the males of the species tend to be more the show-offs in terms of appearance. Think of peacocks and lions!

Hi Alejna --

Don't worry, better slow (or late) than never!

More re the lesbian thang: Should it not be clear, my issue is less with being tagged as a lesbian per se than with the idea that my preference for wanting to feel rather than look good is a sign of lesbianism and, also, that being a lesbian = going against nature and makes one less of a woman.

And picking up on another of your comments: Yes, it does seem that a lot of humans' idea of what is natural is so bound by, well, culture and not all that accurate, actually! ;S

Did you see yesterday´s gam? Go Gunners!!!!
Cheers, Mikael

YTSL said...

Hi Mikael --

Long time no hear! Couldn't watch the Milan-Arsenal match 'live' on TV as it took place early in the morning here. But the plan is to catch the repeat that starts less than 1/2 an hour from now... :)))))

Anonymous said...

So...What did You think? Fun eh? Go Gunners!!!!! Arsene Wenger is a genius. Gunners are SO much fun to watch - and so many of them are fairly young and green. Not readymade superstars like in Chelsea. And still much more of a joy to behold. Arsene rules. Cheers! Mikael

YTSL said...

Hi again Mikael --

It was great to watch! Not as exciting as if I had watched it live, no doubt, but still very satisfying all the same. Arsene rules indeed. Though, if I could be a bit critical, I really do hope that he gets a couple of good full-backs for us in reserve this summer and also permanently dispenses with the services of one E. Eboue...

I've posted mine! And only about a month later. (You know, I still remember that you tagged me for a job-related meme even longer ago. And maybe one of these days I'll even get around to that one.)

Hi Alejna --

Thanks for doing this meme and hey, it'd be great if you did do that jobs meme some time... :)
