In addition, when I think of bad weather days, gray is the colour that tends to come to mind -- and it's not just the dark grays and black of storm clouds but also the bleary low visibility-causing grays of pollution-causing haze and more natural mist.
On those low visibility gray days, it really can lift the spirits to catch sight of some bright colours, as was the case one afternoon when I took a cross-harbour ferry from Kowloon City to North Point. For while the sky was gray, and so too quite a bit of my surroundings, the sailing craft I spotted out in Victoria Harbour most certainly were not -- and ditto re the working boats and even certain of the buildings located near the harbor such as the colorful -- and thus easily recognisable -- Kowloonbay International Trade and Exhibition Centre (aka KITEC).
Consequently, it was an easy decision to use a couple of snaps I took on that ferry ride for Sandi's and Gattina's Photo Hunt this week. As for the photo at the very top of this blog post, it actually was taken near the end of a hike from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo where the weather closer to the route was very fortunately not as dramatic looking as further away near the higher Lantau peaks! :)

Hi YTSL, those clouds look ominous. I love your combination of the two themes in your 2nd and 3rd photos. I once hiked in a downpour and it was quite the experience. :)
Hope you have some a good weather hiking weekend.
These are all great shots for the theme. I love the one of the sailboats. Happy Weekend!
Love the last two pictures!! nothing like bright colors to lighten up a gray and dark day...Happy weekend!
Wow, the sky looks rather scary !!
Superb takes!!
Hi Trekcapri --
Yeah, my friend who was on the hike with me was a bit frightened by those clouds -- but I assured her that they actually were further away than it looked, and we'd be in Mui Wo before it started raining, if it did at all!
Re hiking in a downpour: if it's warm and there's no lightning, am fairly okay with that. But if it's cold... ;(
Hi Carver --
I like the sailboat shot too. Happy weekend to you as well! :)
Hi Marcy --
Absolutely re bright colors lightening a gray day -- so much so that sometimes on gray days, I decide to wear something bright just to feel better! ;b
Hi Gattina --
I prefer the word dramatic to describe that sky... ;)
Hi magiceye --
Thanks!
Love the colours in those shots - perfect for this week's theme. It is amazing how bright and colourful boats can be.
Have a super weekend.
Great photos. Gotta love a dark and brooding sky! I really like the pic of the sailboats with their colourful spinnakers, just gorgeous!
Great series of shots. My favorite is the sailboats.
Cloud shouts are wonderful, and the dark, ominous clouds in the top photo are great.
Hi JDeQ --
Absolutely re the boats. Even the white colored ones stood out on that gray day! :)
Hi Anne --
"Spinnaker" -- I think I just learnt a new word today... ;b
Hi Roan --
Yeah, the sailboat pics does seem to be the most popular. :)
Hi Mike --
I wondered if I had too much cloud in that photo but figured it looks different from the usual photo. Am glad you like it. :)
When I was in Hong Kong last Feb, the weather was perfect. Cool with no rain and we can just walk about with a light jacket.
It strange what others consider is bad weather here it would be a blizzard.
Coffee is on
i like gray gloomy days.
Hi, it's great to met you; and thanks a lot for coming by to see my Photo Hunt:-) Yours is great too.

Hi Aiyah Nonya --
Do you mean last month? There were some nice sunny but still cool days then too -- including on the first day of Chinese New Year. See here:-

:)
Hi Peppylady --
Yup, blizzards -- and tornadoes -- were what I'd consider bad when I lived in Wisconsin. So it's different things in different places alright!
Hi Photo Cache --
Really?! We're having another one today and it's just made me want to stay at home (and sleep for the most part)! ;O
Hi Ragdoll Mommy --
Thanks for reciprocating with the visit! :)
I like to contrast of colorful sailboats against gray sky. Thanks for visiting my photo blog and leaving a comment. Have a wonderful week!
Hi Urailak --
The sailboat photo does appear to be most people's favorites of the ones on this blog entry. Hope you have a good week too.
Some of the typhoons I saw on TV were scary. Lucky Singapore doesn't have it. The colourful sailboats are so pretty.
Hi EastCoastLife --
Singapore -- and Malaysia too -- is pretty blessed in terms of suffering few natural disasters. Mother nature's been generally kind to those two countries!
Love the 'hole in the sky' shot!
The weather's very bad here in KL lately; we have been through a very dry spell without much rain for the past 2 months! The air's polluted with the bush fires, and got so hazy some parts of the city's schools were even closed. And parts of the cities are now on water rationing :(
Hi Horsoon --
Sorry to hear about the bad weather and air pollution in Kuala Lumpur. I was in KL in 2005 when the haze was so awful that it smelt of rubber burning! :(
