Fresh and Artificial (This week's Photo Hunt themes)

Is this what people -- besides NCAA basketball fans, that is! :b -- mean by March madness?  Weather-wise, this March has been a mixed bag of a month -- with the early part feeling like winter just wasn't ready to end and the latter part having days that make one think that summer is truly fast approaching. Visually, the first couple of weeks or so were filled with gray sun-less days, making the days that the sun not only finally peeped through the clouds but actually shone in earnest feel like a miraculous boon.

Fortunately, a few of those beautiful late March days have been days when I'm free to be out and about (rather than on days when I'm stuck in an office building for the most part). Even more fortunately, I was able to go check out this year's edition of the Hong Kong Flower Show on a day when blue skies and sunshine helped bring out the best in the fresh flowers on splendid display at Victoria Park.

As regular visitors to this blog know, I like photographing flowers growing in the wilds of Hong Kong (and get excited when I do such as spot the seasonal Chinese New Year flower). And while I don't much care to take photos of flowers in domestic and cultivated settings, I couldn't help but join other photo bugs in taking out my camera and click away at what really is a pretty massive as well as visually attractive flower show.

Also, as luck would have it (since I don't tend to look too far ahead to check out what theme combinations Sandi's and Gattina's Photo Hunts conjure up), the displays that tended to catch my fancy at Victoria Park that day were ones involving fresh flowers (and related items like grasses) artificially arranged and artistically shaped into such as a globe -- that came complete with a sailing ship that made numerous circular journeys around it throughout the day -- and dragon! (Those wanting to see photos of floral totem poles, penguins and more can go check out a blogging mama's Hong Kong Flower Show visit entry over here!) :b

Your weather sounds a lot like ours this March. We've had a lot of rain although most days the sun has come out for part of the day. The photographs from the flower show are delightful.

I was in the car (not the driver) when I shot the sunflower field. It is odd how the flowers were a blur and the house was in focus. Not sure why it was like that.
Happy Weekend!

I love flower shows, we have a very big one in Gent every 5 years, next will probably be in 2015.

Hi Carver --

March here in Hong Kong usually has a lot of rain but this March wasn't that rainy... instead, the winter was unusually so. So a bit different in regards to your March.

Re your photo of the sunflower field: guess it was one of those where you got a nice surprise after you looked at the photo! :)

Hi magic eye --

Thanks! :)

Hi Mar --

I'm hoping summer will wait a bit more before arriving. I want my spring! :b

Hi Raine --

Hehehe... don't think anyone was allowed to lie on that bed of flowers. Otherwise, quite a few flowers would have been badly flattened! ;D

Hi Gattina --

The one in Hong Kong is an annual event but this was actually the first year that I went and checked it out. Might go again next year! :)

We have had a really weird March too. Within one week the temperatures went from summer to winter! Poor plants and creatures.

Lovely pics!

What fantastic displays! That globe is amazing and so is the dragon. I bet that flower show is a photographer's paradise. Happy spring!

Hi YTSL, gorgeous! I love all the photos in your collection and the globe and dragon arrangements are very cool. You captured these flowers beautifully.

Happy Spring from me too.

Hi Sandi --

Thanks for visiting and hopefully see you next week. :)

Hi Sue --

Yikes, a one week spring? Hope we have a lengthier spring here in Hong Kong!

Hi Annie --

To judge by the number of people with cameras about, I think we can safely say that the Hong Kong Flower Show is indeed something that photographers really enjoy. :)

Hi Trekcapri --

Thanks for liking the photos I put up and happy spring to you too. :)

Hi LifeRamblings --

It was wonderful alright -- and definitely bargain priced as well. :)

Once again, I've enjoyed the way you've combined the two themes. Flowers is an inspired choice! The photos are beautiful, too.

Wow those flowers are amazing! Our March has been a total mixed bag too...had a couple days of 30 C followed immediately of -12 C with the windchill. Crazy! No wonder the weather is always a hot topic of conversation in Nova Scotia :)

first is fresh, and the globe is artificial.

Our Chinese TV is showing life of Bruce Lee, I watch part of it, as I grew up that era where Bruce Lee was the Kung Fu king.

Hi Cherry Pie --

From your comments, I imagine that you've attended your share of flower shows and more then! ;b

Hi Janice --

Thanks!

Hi Alejna --

Thanks as ever for reading and commenting as well as looking and visiting. :)

Hi Anne --

We talk a lot about the weather here too! ;b

Hi Ann --

So... are you a fan of Bruce Lee? If so, you might like a fairly recent Hong Kong film entitled "Bruce Lee, My Brother". :)

Hi Jerry --

Thanks -- and yeah, I did have a great weekend. Too bad, it's soon going to be a weekday once more... ;(

sorry, I didn't know you reply our comments in your blog.

I am not a fan of Bruce lee. My grand dad was, and all the boys I went to school with were.

My husband has Chinese TV on, and Bruce Lee Movie was on, so I half watch and half sit at the computer.

I am quite curious about him. Recently I reminiscence with my High School friend, the boys cried when Bruce died.

Very good weather at your place ya... Nice flowers...

Hi Ann --

Yes, I do respond to comments on my blog. I see it as a way of having a dialogue with my readers.

As a kid, I was a pretty big fan of Bruce Lee. I remember being devastated upon learning of his death -- I think his was the first celebrity death I felt impacted by, actually. But if truth be told, in my Hong Kong pantheon, there are bigger "gods" and "goddesses"... ;b

Hi Keeyit --

Good weather that day at least! :b
