Curved (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

This week's Photo Hunt is one that I could easily submit several entries for -- such is the abundance of photos of curved objects that I have in my photo archive! So, to help narrow things down, I set extra limitations for myself -- making it so that all three of this week's photos were taken within the past year in urban parts of Hong Kong Island (i.e., just 7% of the territory of Hong Kong as a whole!).

As it so happens, the bottom two photos -- of a rainbow sculpture in Hong Kong Park and the curved Mid-Levels building known as The Gladdon (that now houses luxury residences but which I suspect was a coach house in colonial days) -- were both taken on a single day in December last year -- while on a hike from The Peak down to Admiralty. But rather than just put them up on their own, I couldn't resist also including a photo I took last weekend from the Museum of Coastal Defence in Shau Kei Wan in this entry because I actually find the sight of that curved portion of the highway to be uncommonly aesthetically pleasing! ;)

These are all wonderful curved photos YTSL. Hong Kong is such a small place by my standards but you always come up with something for every theme that is local.

Happy weekend to you.

Hi Carver --

Thanks much. After seeing some of the more colorful Photo Hunt entries for this week, worried that mine would look too grey and boring... so your comments are really appreciated. :)

Hi jmb --

Well, not every time -- since I do occasionally put up pictures of more than Hong Kong. But thanks all the same for your nice comments. :)

Hi Luna Miranda --

Thanks -- and glad you like the first shot too. :)

Hi Photo Cache --

Woah, so that first shot has more than one person who likes it. Cool! ;b

Hi Mar --

Come to think of it: rainbow sculptures are quite uncommon, aren't they?! ;b

Hi Gattina --

I'm happy I don't drive over here too! :D

These chokos are in NZ, it used to be grown in Sabah. but now, people are taking them to malaysia. My auntes from miri came here and took them back, though it doesn't grow as well.

They sell it as a veg in Singapore, not cheap, because with the shape like folded hands, very auspicious fruit/veg

Love your "curves" LOL

Hi Ann --

Thanks for coming over and answering my chokos query over on your blog! And teehee re your liking my "curves". :D

Hi Hootin' Anni --

Thanks for visiting and enjoying! :)

Hi Manang Kim --

Agreed that curved shapes tend to be appealing in and of themselves -- and, also, that they can seem to be everywhere. :)

Hi Ladykli --

Glad that the photos' greyness don't detract from your appreciating the curves! :)

Hi magiceye --

You seem to be in the majority on that one! ;b

I love looking at architecture both in real life and in photos, so I love your choices!

Happy weekend.

I had to make some hard choices for this theme, too! I like curved things and therefore have many photos of them.

Yours are marvelous! I like that first photo, it really gives a feel for the cityscape.

My Curved photos are up. I hope you get some time to visit me! Have a wonderful weekend.

You restricted yourself beautifully! I love the rainbow sculpture - is there a pot of gold at the end of it?

Some lovely curves there :-)

Hi Annie --

I'm the same way re architecture -- so, cool! :)

Hi "Mrs Mecomber" --

More re that first photo (since it seems to be the clear favorite of people): it's of a part of the city that some people think of as "the boonies" but is still pretty built up and actually has quite a bit of charm. :)

Hi Lisa --

Thanks!

Hi witsandnuts --

Did you see The Gladdon from the Peak Tram? And yes, that hiking trail actually runs parallel to the Peak Tram tracks for part of the way. :)

Hi A. --

No pot of gold, alas. So you still have to look to other rainbows for that! ;b

Hi CherryPie --

Teehee, thanks! :)

Great job as always. I really love that highway by the city and water. I would sure love to visit your part of the world some day.

I like your trio of curved shots! The curved building is quite cool. And I'm quite partial to road shots as well, so I'm another one who's quite taken with the top photo.

I did consider using one of my many curving road shots that I have, though most of mine have strikingly different surroundings. (My curvy roads tend to cut through trees, rather than buildings.)

Hi Bull Rhino --

Glad you like that first photo -- and I imagine that should you ever venture to this part of the world, you'll find yourself busy taking lots of photographs and generally enjoying yourself. :)

Hi Alejna --

Re your last comment: so funny, isn't it? In many people's minds, the US is all urban and Asia's pretty rural. And yet... it's you who live in the more rural part of a world than me! ;b

jams o donnell said...

Wonderful choices. It is amazing to think that Honk Kong is mainly rural. We always get the impression in the west that it is completely built up

YTSL said...

Hi jams --

Well, I wouldn't go so far to say that Hong Kong's mainly rural. Rather, it's either country park or urban area, it often seems! ;b
