Narrow (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

A few weeks ago, we had a Photo Hunt theme -- i.e., skinny -- that seems somewhat similar to this week's; and for which I had to rack my brains somewhat to come up with a suitable photograph and post. So one might think that this week's narrow theme might pose a problem for me... except that, in the interim, I had come across this post (in the vicinity of St. John's Cathedral, over in Hong Kong's Central District) that's of such slender width that a worthy message has had to be posted vertically on -- rather than horizontally across -- it!

More than incidentally, a bit of on-line research has got me concluding that the narrow subject of my photo is an actual Peace Pole that's part of The World Peace Prayer Society's international Peace Pole Project. If so, it's actually the first Peace Pole that I've ever encountered, and has me wondering whether other Photo Hunters -- and visitors to this blog -- have had sightings of such over in the parts of the world that they frequent...?

Great photo! That is certainly a narrow pole with a great message. Interesting peace pole project! This is the first peace pole we've come across.

Skinny or narrow, this pole is really small (!!) I never had to rick my neck to read a peace message, lol !

Great photo and a message I wish was heeded a much more than it is. Happy weekend

It's the first time I've seen anything like that. A good message though.
I do agree that this week posed some problems after "skinny". I've been wishing I had thought ahead.

I have not seen this pole in Singapore, but I'll keep a look out for it.

It's my first time to your blog. Hi!!

Hi Dragonheart & Merlin --

Thanks!

Hi Gattina --

Hahaha, the pole isn't so small in real life but nevertheless, one does have to rick one's neck to read its message. :b

Hi jams o'donnell --

Yeah, so many of us want peace in the world, yet there's so much less of it than one would like.... :S

Hi a. --

Aah well, at least next week's Photo Hunt theme makes for quite the change! :)

Hi eastcoastlife --

I think you may have visited my blog before; only when you did, I was based in Penang rather than Hong Kong! ;b

well the sentiment is worth a million posts and i do like the pole too

I agree...skinny and narrow. But I think that skinny is pertaining to 'animal/human' while narrow is more or less an inanimate subject.

You did great.

My "narrow" is shared, I hope you can drop by and leave a comment. I love visitors. Have a happy weekend!

Amen to what is written in that post.

ytsl,

Great photo as usual. I look forward to your weekly selections as you always find something interesting to post

that is a narrow sign, nice thought but doubtful that it will happen in our lifetime.....

PEACE BE WITH YOU!

I think I saw a similar peace pole in Hameenkyru in Finland... I don't have a photo though =0

interesting to see a photo of the beam of light in Iceland dedicated to John Lennon's memory... But is that one for peace? Or was it to remember his song IMAGINE...?

Wonderful choice! I've seen the 9/11 Memorial Peace Pole in NYC.

That's a great shot for the narrow theme. I am aware of international peace day but haven't encountered other peace poles. I like the idea of peace polls and hope there are others.

Katney said...

I have not seen a peace pole, but will keep my eyes open for them in the future.

Andree said...

Fascinating. I went to that site. There is no locator for other peace poles. They are expensive! Which is a shame because the concept is great. I've learned a lot from your post.

Hi Joyismygoal --

Absolutely re the sentiment. And yeah, the post isn't too bad either (as a piece of art work), is it? :)

Hi hootin' anni --

Interesting thoughts that re skinny vs narrow. And thanks for thinking I did great! :)

Hi Lynn --

Appreciate the sentiment. :)

Hi sbk --

Thanks, and yeah, I do find the Photo Hunt fun in that they get me to highlight certain photos and subjects that, for some reason or other, I wouldn't normally devote an entire post to.

Hi Sarge Charlie --

Well, as the proverbial they say, it's the thought that counts.

Hi Ian --

Love John Lennon's "Imagine" and would be happy to learn that there's a beam of light dedicated to it as well as Lennon himself.

Hi JC --

Guess I should check out what the 9/11 Memorial Peace Pole looks like sometime soon... :)

Hi Carver --

I like the idea of Peace Poles too. Encountering one randomly like I did got me thinking about less mundane matters than usual -- something which I think is a good thing all round.

Hi Katney --

Please do, and come back and let me know when you do spot one! :)

Hi Andree --

Yep re there being no locator at that website. Hence my being unsure whether the post/pole I saw is an actual Peace Pole... ;S

The pole, no matter how narrow or even no matter how it is being ignored for its size, bring so much meaning to everyone. My first time to see a peace pole.I hope there would be many like that all over the world.

Have a great weekend!

just right for photohunt - I like that idea of peace poles or display messages that meant something - that provoke one to think or to react.

actually the first shot of your Pak Kung Au post with the the narrow tree branches can also be use for this photohunt.

Hah, great choice for the theme! Happy weekend!

They are related, skinny and narrow, aren't they? This is a wonderful shot for the theme.
I too wonder where the other poles are and will go to the links after I leave this comment.
Peace to you YTSL

Hi pato & pearl --

Welcome to my blog and hope you're return for more visits! :)

Hi Julie --

According to the site I linked to, there are many peace poles. Somewhat strangely though, not too many of us have come across one -- at least until now!

Hi Heather --

Agree! :)

Hi Randi, Yen, g_mirage and Linda --

Thanks!

Hi Utah Mommy --

Yup, did pay a return visit! :)

Hi Lissa --

Hadn't thought about the Pak Kung Au post's first pictures being appropriate for this week's Narrow theme. But guess you're right there! :)

Hi jmb --

Wonder whether you'll come across a peace pole over on your side of the world at some point... :)

Hi denz --

I'm not quite sure about what you mean by your "I love the way you put consistency of the picture" comment but thanks all the same! ;b

Randi said...

Hi ... again!
Many thanks for your comments to my forest-picture. To answer your question: This beech-forest is planted and to me it is definitely real... ;)

YTSL said...

Hi again Randi --

Hmmm, don't recall asking whether the beech-forest was real. OTOH, recall that your picture of the forest is really stunning! :)

Haven't encountered a peace pole yet.

Hi YTSL, Gong Hei Fatt Choy!!

YTSL said...

Hi Willow --

Supposedly, there are thousands of them but yeah, it seems like peace poles have yet to be spotted by too many people yet!

Hi Stefan --

You're early by a few minutes but Kung Hei Fatt Choi -- and happy year of movie viewing -- to you too! :)
