Favorite (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

Too much choice may not be the best of things. That's what I got to thinking when pondering what to do for this week's Photo Hunt theme as it may well be one of the most 'open' that we've had! So do please excuse me if my reasoning for this particular blog entry comes across as too simple -- that is, I've gone ahead and 'just' put up a trio of favorite (but hitherto unfeatured on this blog) shots of my favorite part of the world; one where I so wanted to be in that I specifically looked for a job that would allow me to come over here (rather, than has been my more usual pattern up to now, decide on a place of work and/or study and go there regardless of whether I liked or had much prior knowledge of that part of the world).

And for those who like to get details re what's in the photos, the three (which, BTW, is one of my favorite numbers -- not least, in some of my favorite Hong Kong movies like Peking Opera Blues, The Heroic Trio and The Soong Sisters, good things seem to come in threes!) photos above are of (from top to bottom):-
* View from the 'scary' Ocean Park cable car of Hong Kong Island's Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay;
* Coils of incense inside the Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road; and
* The sky over Fung Ying Seen Koon in Fanling. :)

The last trip when I was in HK, I didn't have much time to get to anywhere.

Sogo was so packed with bargain hunters though! I was there for a meal.

How's the bird flu situation in HK?

I haven't been to HK yet. I hope to go there by next year.

Hi Criz Lai --

Glad you like that shot. When blown up, it's more shakey than I wish but when not, I think it works. ;)

Hi Napaboaniya --

I'm no expert but -- days, I should think! ;b

Hi gen/entry --

Thanks and happy weekend to you too. :)

Hi Photo Cache --

Not everywhere; "just" Hong Kong! ;b

Hi East Coast Life --

Too bad you didn't get to spend much time in Hong Kong. Re the bird flu situation: no panic; still see people eating chicken, etc.!

Hi TiOheM --

Next year's coming up soon so I guess you'll be here in the near future! ;b

Hi Blur Mommy --

Thanks!

Hi RJ Flamingo --

Hmmm, that second shot seems to be the *favorite* of visitors thus far... ;)

Hi jmb --

Thanks and you have a good weekend too! :)

Hi Juliana RW --

Not to worry, I did have time to visit. :)

Hi Mar --

Thanks much for the appreciative comments! :)

Hi Phoenix --

Thanks and hope you have a great weekend as well! :)

Hi Aileni (and jams o donnell too) --

If you smelt the incense being burnt there in that temple, you'd have little difficulty realizing that they're incense coils... ;)

I remember, I've watched The Heroic Trio and The Soong Sisters but couldn't recall what is the movie all about :).
Bila nak balik kampung?

I love them all, but for me it has to be the third shot - the silhouettes against that lovely sky are perfect.

I wish I could go there! It looks fantastic!

The incense coils are amazing! I thought they were bells of some sort. All lovely shots. I found it difficult to restrict my choice too.

Gattina said...

I love the second one best ! that's very original !

Rebecca Mecomber said...

I know what you mean about too much of a choice! I had a hard time choosing, too. I really like the first photo. Happy Photo Hunters! I did mine, too.

Thanks for sharing your favorite corner of the world. These are great shots. I agree that I like the second picture of the incense coils. That is very cool.

Hi Bintang --

Well, if you clicked to the links, you'll have had reviews to jog your memories of the movies! And will balik kampung before the end of the year -- though just for a holiday rather than permanently!

Hi Leslie --

You've travelled to Italy from Oz; Hong Kong's not as far -- really! ;)

Hi Alvin C --

Woo hoo, a vote for photo number 3! Thanks! ;b

Hi A. --

I'm guessing people are mistaking the incense coils for bells as the tags on them (to denote who's offering them up to the gods) are clappers... ;)

Hi Gattina --

Was actually worrying that the second shot wasn't original but, rather, too touristy and cliched! ;D

Hi Mrs Mecomber --

Glad you like the first photo and of course I took time to go have a look at your Photo Hunt entry (and also checked out a few of your other blog entries while visiting)! :)

Hi JC --

Thanks and funny how 'favorite' could be difficult -- but yeah, it was a bit! :b

Hi Pat --

Indeed and happy weekend to you too! :)

Hi Sabine M --

Thanks, and you're welcome! :)

Hi "People with Cameras" --

Thanks! :)

Hi Mirage2g --

You said it right there! :)

Hi Marta --

And thank you for appreciating, etc.! :)

Wow - amazing. This side of HK is seldom seen. The first time I was in HK was in 2004 and we only went to Victoria's Peak and nearby places. I know there are lots more to see -- hopefully I can come back :)

YTSL said...

Hi Bengbeng --

Just visited your blog again. Thanks SO MUCH for the wonderful explanation as to why you like your favorite plant so. :)

Hi Sreisaat --

There is indeed a lot of different sides to Hong Kong that tourists unfortunately don't take the time to check out -- a case in point, this afternoon, I went hiking up on The Peak but instead of being near where the tourists were, my friend and I visited some really green spots and a former military installation known as the Pinewood Battery.

Oh, and if you haven't yet, please do check out other entries of this blog as they'll show you yet more different parts and faces of Hong Kong! :)

Those are three beautfiul shots of three very beautiful places! I can see why they are favorites.

(Did I tell you I recently rewatched Peking Opera Blues? Of course I thought of you.)

PastormacsAnn said...

These are lovely. I can see why you like it so much

YTSL said...

Hi Alejna --

Oooo... "Peking Opera Blues": And I'll be honest with ya -- the thought did cross my mind to take a photo of all *four* of the DVDs I have of that film and submit it as this week's Photo Hunt entry! ;D

Hi Pastormac's Ann --

Thanks for being able to understand why I love being where I am so much. :)

Marites said...
