Hot (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

This week's Photo Hunt theme allows me to highlight two things about Hong Kong that I've been meaning to do so for some time now. Firstly, that there is an unusually high preponderance of cautionary signs for just about everything here, not just about the weather. Not that I want to accuse the HKSAR of being a nanny state, mind. But a lot of the warnings I've seen being broadcast around here often do seem to fall into the "d'uh, we know!" category. A case in point: Believe you me when I state that I didn't need telling that it was very hot that day this past summer when I went to visit the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence over in Shau Kei Wan and came across this bilingual "Very Hot weather warning" sign, among other things! ;b

Secondly, not only does the reputed 100% concrete jungle that is Hong Kong have wonderful country parks and attendant natural greenery, it also has its share of sandy beaches -- like that at Shek O, over on the southeast section of Hong Kong island! And on (very) hot, cloudless days, guess where a significant amount of the territory's population like to head to and happily bake on (albeit more often than not under significant umbrella shade)? ;)

NICE! That was funny that HK has a weather warning sign!

The weather is equally hot in Penang. Most of the time I prefer to stay indoor and avoid going outdoor unless necessary.

I had to laugh at the weather warning sign. You're right, most of people can figure out if it's hot by walking out the door. Have a great weekend.

Lovely beach shot and glad to see that it exists near Hong Kong. The sign is a bit strange indeed.
Loved the photos above too. Those rocks are very interesting formations.

My photo hunt picture is up too. Come check it out if you get a chance. :)

Hi ehon --

Actually, HK has *many*, not just one, weather warning signs! ;b

Hi Chen --

I know it can be hot in Penang. (I was born and have lived there for a time, after all!) Fortunately, it's cooler now in Hong Kong than Penang though! :)

Hi Carver --

Laugh is what I did when I first saw that weather warning sign too! :)

Hi denz --

Happy Photo Hunting to you too! :)

Hi jmb --

Beaches don't just exist near Hong Kong; they exist in Hong Kong! ;b

And thanks for checking out my other posts too. :)

Hi Natalie --

Thanks for the invitation and yep, have gone and checked out your entry (as I've done all of those who visit here!). :)

This is the first time I have seen such a sign. Was it a joke? haha. Anyway, it's a cool way to attract any attention :)

I would have thought a very hot weather warning was a little redundant! Great posts. I really must visit Hong Kong some day. Happy weekend

Hi again Lynn --

Like I told you -- you shopaholic, you -- before, Hong Kong really can far offer more than shopping! ;b

Hi tegdirb92, Genny and Pat --

Thanks! :)

Hi Gattina --

Funny. I've been thinking now that it's cooler (19-24 degrees Celcius) that it might be nice to sit out on that beach (than previously when it really was very HOT)... ;b

Hi Criz --

No joke. Those Hong Kongers -- or, at least, the authorities -- sure do take their warning signs seriously! (And you should see the ones for rain and storms as well...) :b

Hi jams o'donnell --

"I would have thought a very hot weather warning was a little redundant!"

You and me and a whole lot of others from the looks of it! :D

Hi SnoopytheGoon --

Thanks, and happy weekend to you too! :)

Hi a. (and Gattina) --

Has it turned that cold in Europe already? ;S

Great choices for this week's Hunt! The beach looks lovely. :) Heat advisories are common in many countries. Heat can kill, especially the elderly, who may not realize just how hot and dangerous it is.

My hot photo.

Here's my not-so-fiery version.. ;-)

Oh no, a hot weather warning sign. That's is so crazy. Great choice.

LOL! When it's hot, umbrella really come in handy. :)

Hi dragonheart --

Point taken re heat advisories. I guess what makes it really weird in Hong Kong is that it's obviously the kind of practice adapted from its former colony (the UK) but since Hong Kong's sub-tropical, it's invariably going to have a lot of hot days. So...

Hi mott --

Dragonheart made a good point re this matter in his comments, actually! :)

Hi abe-hap --

Thanks! :)

Hi "the teach" --

Yep, and you're welcome! :)

Hi 'Queen of My Domain' --

The ones that can make me really laugh are the storm warnings -- this when it's more like what Malaysians would consider to be a drizzle! ;b

Hi everydayhealy --

Yep, as my dear mother would definitely say: umbrellas are for shade against the sun, not just the rain! ;D

SabineM said...

surprising indeed! I would have never guessed this was near HK! nice photos!

I understand the hot weather. It is hot in Malaysia all year round. *faints*

YTSL said...

Hi Sabine M. --

Shek O's not near Hong Kong. It is in/part of Hong Kong!!! ;D

Hi pelfy --

Equatorial Malaysia actually has sub-tropical Hong Kong beat as far as hot weather is concerned! :b

Willow said...

haha. It's hot? Really? I thought only I was suffering some persistent, hot flash. Really duh.

YTSL said...

Hi Willow --

Well, considering that it isn't summer any more where you are... ;D
