Given my fascination with spiders, it stands to reason that when I see the word intricate,
spider webs are pretty much the first thing that leaps to my mind. And
given the large number of spiders and spider webs that I've
photographed over the years, I definitely didn't lack for images to
illustrate Sandi's choice of Photo Hunt theme for this week. Rather, the question was whether I had any that could also fit Gattina's water theme at the same time.
After
rooting through my photo archive, I found two candidates: one taken one
wet day of a spider web covered with rain drops (but so strongly woven
as to still be standing!); and another of a spider and -- more visible
if you click to enlarge on the photo -- parts of the web it was weaving
over the surface of a body of a water.
Ironically, however, the spider webs in those two photos that have water in them along with spiders and their webs happen to have some of the least intricate spider webs I've seen in them! So, for comparison, I've put a photo of a spider and its truly intricate spider web right at the top of this blog post -- and yes, I'm hoping there are no arachnophobes among my fellow Photo Hunters or, at least, those who elected to check out my entry this week! ;b

Hi YTSL, the web in your first photo is pretty cool. Great close-up photos to combine the two themes.
Have a great weekend.
This is just so perfect. I like seeing dewdrops on intricate spider webs in the early morning hours.
Loved the 1st pic!!
I love the shots of spider webs but for me it is so difficult to find one. I am just hoping that I can get a good shot one day.
Hi Trekcapri --
Thanks for your appreciation and happy weekend to you too! :)
Hi Photo Cache --
I'm not an early riser by nature but I've been fortunate to see my share of dewdrops somehow! :)
Hi magiceye --
Obviously you're not afraid of spiders then... ;b
Hi EastCoastLife --
Come to Hong Kong and, in particular, visit south Lamma and Lantau in the summer -- and I can pretty much guarantee that you'll see plenty of spider webs (and large spiders too)! :b
Nice combination of both themes ! only I hate spiders, lol !
Great intricate shots for this week's theme!
Have a super weekend.
That first photo is stunning! What a beautiful creature and her web :) I like spiders. I see their purpose in nature. I even where dangly spider earrings :)
Great shots of the webs and spider for the themes this week. Happy Weekend!
Wow, you did a great job capturing those tiny droplets on the spider's webs. Nice shots!
Ahhh, I didn't even think of posting some of my spider web photos for "intricate." Good idea! I love spiders, too. Great shots!
Hi Gattina --
Don't hate spiders -- they're beautiful along with the webs they weave!
Hi JDeQ --
Thanks and hope you have a good weekend too. :)
Hi Sue --
I like spiders because, among other things, they eat mosquitoes! So when I see spiders on hikes, I feel more confident that I won't get bitten by mozzies! :)
Hi Carver --
Thanks and happy weekend to you too! :)
Hi Annie --
Thanks. The photo's a bit more blurry and I would like but am still happy to have it. :)
Hi Mike --
Spider lovers of the world unite! ;b
Yes, you're right, great minds DO think alike! I'm not a fan of spiders inside my house, but outside they are often quite gorgeous, and have intricate pattens on their bodies in addition to their webs. Thanks for a great look at this one!
Eeee.. no spiders for me too..
That aside I do appreciate the wonder of nature. How the spider are able to weave a web free hand. I can't even sew without a pattern on hand.
Hi Yvonne,
I'll join the other comments in saying they're all good photos, but I find the bottom one especially interesting...The water almost resembles a broken portion of mirror above which the spider has constructed its web...Did you take this photo using a macro focus?
This photo makes me feel as if I'm peering into an "intricate" secluded portal in nature. Very, very dreamy!
Bill
I see you have no snow.
Coffee is on
Hi Anne --
Oh definitely agree re bugs inside one's home vs outside! I definitely prefer to encounter them in nature, not my living space! :D
Hi Aiyah Nonya --
So you don't like spiders but appreciate their handiwork -- fair enough! ;b
Hi Bill --
Yup, I did take that third photo using a macrofocus -- did so with all of the pics, in fact, but really did go up close for that third photo because that spider was quite a bit smaller than the ones I usually photograph! :)
Hi Peppylady --
Yep, no snow in these parts -- though sometimes, we do get frost on very high ground! ;b
A spider web—how brill! They are intricate.
Hi Cathy Keisha --
Am glad you like the idea! :)
I'm with you on loving spiders...they fascinate me, and you've got great shots here. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them...:)
Hi Lynette --
I think the majority of people checking out this post are fascinated rather than repulsed by spiders -- thank goodness! ;b
