Wind and Something Green (This week's Photo Hunt themes)

There's plenty of green -- and, for that matter, blue -- in the top-most photo of this entry for Sandi's and Gattina's Photo Hunts this week "but where's the wind?" I can anticipate some of you asking. For that, I ask you to focus on the colored specks on the water -- for those are windsurfers out there practicing and enjoying the only sport for which Hong Kong has won a gold medal for at the Olympics!

One afternoon decades ago in Penang, I tried my hand at windsurfing and concluded that it wasn't for me.  But I do reckon that windsurfers at play often make for eye-catching sights -- and especially so since they often do so in photogenic locales (such as in the vicinity of Wong Shek Pier and in the Tolo Harbour off Tai Mei Tuk here in Hong Kong).

Even more spectacular than the windsurfers are the kite surfers, including those of I've seen speeding about in -- and even spending some time in the air above -- the waters of Cheung Chau, the charming island that I most associate with Riley Ip's lovely Just One Look but which many Hong Kongers most associate with Olympic windsurfing champion Lee Lai San.

Now that we've established that all three of these photos in this blog post fit the wind theme, here's also pointing out that in addition to there being colored green bits in all the images, they are of sports that are pretty environmentally friendly -- i.e., green.  After all, they don't require any motorised components to carry out -- only wind along with human power! :b

Okay, is that top photo from our hike together? I'm thinking it must be! (I have some nearly identical ones in my own photo library, and I found myself lookng at them trying to match up the details. Those clouds are quite distinctive!)

All three of the photos are great, and excellent for the two themes.

Hi YTSL, very cool take on the dual theme. Your photos are beautiful. I'm a big fan of the Olympics and did not know that windsurfing was the only sport which Hong Kong won a gold medal in. It looks like it is a very popular sport based on so many specs in your top photo.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Trekcapri --

I'm glad you like the take and photos. Yeah, windsurfing's pretty popular in Hong Kong. And BTW, Lee Lai Shan's uncle has a windsurfing center in Cheung Chau to this day... :)

I have never tried windsurf, husband wants to try kite surf..To tell the truth I'd rather sit indoors when it's windy outside.

Great sceneries! Happy Easter

Windsurfing looks like so much fun. I've never tried it, and I'd imagine it might be challenging physically to keep upright. Great pics!

Great shots for the themes. I enjoy watching windsurfers when I'm at the beach. I've never tried it but it looks like fun.

Hi Mar --

I like feeling the wind -- or at least breeze -- when I'm by the seaside or out hiking. But I definitely will leave kite sailing (and para gliding, for that matter) to others!

Hi magiceye --

Thank you. Have to admit that I wish I had more close up shots of the windsurfers, etc. But ah well, these will do I guess! ;b

Hi Sue --

It is indeed challenging to stay up on that board! Remember having to spend a lot of time and effort even trying to get up on it as well as falling down from it! ;(

Hi peppylady --

Windsurfing on a river -- don't think I've ever seen that! ;O

Hi Gattina --

If it makes you feel better, the rainy season is here in Hong Kong. So, yes, green foliage but lots of grey skies too!

Hi Carver --

Have you ever been tempted to try windsurfing after watching people doing it?

This looks fun and I like watching windsurfers!

I can't swim so windsurfing is out. :(
I think balancing on such a small board is also a problem.

Hi LifeRamblings --

Thinking of trying your hand at windsurfing or kite sailing then?

Hi EastCoastLife --

You can wear a life-jacket... but that wouldn't help you with balancing! ;S
