Sweet (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

As I'm sure many of my fellow Photo Hunters will agree, this week's Photo Hunt theme is one where we're spoiled for choices in terms of what direction to go and photos to put up. And yes, I easily could have been content to just put up the top-most photo in this blog entry and leave it at that -- but, as you can see from it, I often find it hard to be content with just one kind of thing (be it desserts at a very nice lunch buffet or photos for a Photo Hunt!).

Also, after seeing the sign featured in the second photo from the top -- whose message I like but whose creator's inclusion of a heart symbol really seals the deal on it sweetness -- I got to thinking of illustrating the sweet theme in more abstract ways. And with the help of a couple of artists who participated in the one-day-event last November that was Sculpture on Hong Kong Sea, I believe I have.

To elaborate a bit: I am one of those people who emotionally as well as intellectually responds to art ("even" modern art) -- and among the pieces on view that day that not only captured my attention but also got me thinking were sweet as well as cool were Wong Chung Wing's simple yet evocative Helping Each Other and Bill Chan Kwok Man's Walking Together (the latter of which also made me smile because of its probably inadvertent resemblance to Gumby!).

(Additionally, yes, I do feel that it's pretty sweet that this week's Photo Hunt theme has given me the opportunity to put up more photos of that event! ;b )

Art pieces can be so sweet! Hong Kong, though small and over-crowded, has done very well in promoting its Arts in the country, making it accessible to its citizens.

Very sweet take on the theme. The last piece of art - "Walking together" is my favorite.

The sweet in the top photo, the one that looks like a bar of glycerin soap make me think fondly of when I lived in Mew York City and would sometimes go in to Manhattan to this Japanese tea shop and buy sweets. They were all favourites but the most beautiful one was a bit like the one in your photo.

It was a clear rectangle with a swirl of green that looked like a water weed and Koi fish (not a real one!!!). It was so beautiful it was hard to take that first bite.

The art is beautiful, too!

the last sculpture is my favourite, how sweet.

yes, i visited the mirabell garden where 'the sound of music' was filmed. Salzburg is indeed a beautiful city with its rich history and traditions. i visited Insbruck and Vienna too and was glad they didn't disappoint me.

I love your choice of art work, and it's good to see an alternative to the sweet theme. :)

Love your take on this theme! There's a lot of cynical art out there and how wonderful that you found some that is truly sweet.

Happy weekend.

Hi magiceye --

Touche -- yes, we both opted for Western rather than Asian desserts this week! ;b

Hi EastCoastLife --

Er... remember... Hong Kong is not a country but a Special Administrative Region (of China)! :D

Hi Photo Cache --

Glad I'm not the only one who sees art that way. :)

Hi Randi --

Have to say that I love the curves of both pieces of that sculpture. :)

Hi Ipanema --

Re those desserts: they came at the end of a real feast of a meal! ;)

Hi Anneke --

Wow re the jello dessert you saw in the Japanese tea shop in Manhattan! :b

Hi Colin --

Glad you agree. :)

Hi Bengbeng --

Heheheh... yeah, even though today was a 3 movie -- the HK International Film Festival is still going on -- day, couldn't resist making this week's Photo Hunt entry more complex than it could otherwise have been... ;)

Hi Life Ramblings --

I've visited Innsbruck and Vienna too. (Unfortunately, it was ages ago though -- the pre-digital camera age, to be exact!)

Hi Criz Lai --

Am glad my take's to your liking! :)

Hi Sue --

It's sweet to find that there are others who have the same view with regards art as me. :)

Hi "Mrs Mecomber" --

So you see the resemblance -- and it made you smile -- too? :)

Hi A. --

Thanks and yes, indeedy. :)

Hi Annie --

Know what you mean about there being a lot of cynical art out there. And yes, my general preference is for those that give a more positive view of humanity. :)

Hi healingmagichands --

Thanks and I have gone to see your sweet things. :)

Hi Smalltown RN --

Thanks and happy holidays to you too. :)

Very interesting "sweet" things ! It's true this word fits on all kind of things !

Well I went with ordinary but I always enjoy your "different" interpretations YTSL. And learn something new about Hong Kong usually.

Very sweet indeed! Happy weekend.

Hi jams --

I think you meant to write "Happy weekend" -- if so, same to you too. :)

Hi Noel --

Glad you liked seeing all my four photographs for this week's Photo Hunt. :)

Hi Carver --

I'm glad you didn't think I was stretching it this week... ;b

Hi Gattina --

Nice to get a broad theme once in a while, eh? ;b

Hi jmb --

Your "ordinary" was fine but I'm just happy I could stretch the theme without much difficulty this week. :)

Hi Lisa --

Thanks and happy weekend to you too. :)

Nice choices for the theme. I didn't even think of art!

Hi CherryPie --

Thanks -- and well, I didn't think of art in general but did think that those two pieces in the photo are sweet. So... :)
