"Don't talk politics or religion at the table, etc." Thus goes an old piece of advice that I'm sure many of us has heard someone attempt to dispense at some point or other in our lives. Why? Because these two topics are likely to get emotions running high, to the point that some people -- with whom you may hitherto have thought you had a lot in common and liked a lot -- will get inflamed.
Still, for this week's emotion(s)-themed Photo Hunt, I'm taking the liberty of posting photos that represent precisely those two taboo topics: with the first photo being of a pro-democracy march through, cum political demonstration in, the streets of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China that took place in October last year; and the second being of the state mosque of my home state of Penang in Malaysia... ;b

That's great architecture - I'm glad I got to see that. :)
Yes it is really have emotions rally...Mine is up also...
i agree, politics and religion are two topics that could illicit different emotions. :)
happy weekend!
Politics and religion are both very, very emotional topics. Why lives are even lost because of these two.
Great take on the theme. The mosque is beautiful. As for the demonstrators, I hope they were listened to. Have a great weekend
Politics and religion are two very sensitive topics. People can get into fights over them. :P
Good choices nevertheless. The mosque is very unusual.
Have a great weekend!
Most definitely!! Politics and religion can bring out the best and worst emotions ever.
Happy Hunting. Hope your weekend is super.
Religion was never a subject to discuss in my family. It just wasn't important enough. I love the picture of the mosque !
So true... I try not to talk about politics or religion anywhere ;-)
Great shots!
Hi Leslie --
Glad you like what you saw of the mosque! :)
Hi Genny --
You mean rallys/demos get emotions going? If so, yes, indeedy!
Hi Maiylah --
...and strong emotions at that... ;b
Hi Julie --
So many lives have indeed been lost due to politics and religion. One reason why I think John Lennon's "Imagine" is so spot on.
Hi jams o'donnell --
Thanks and re the demonstration: I think the pressuring process is still ongoing... :S
Hi eastcoastlife --
Fights and so much more in fact! :S
Hi SnoopytheGoon --
Thanks, and re the mosque: Hmmm, maybe it's because you're used to seeing older mosques in your part of the world?
Hi Hootin' Anni --
Agreed, and happy hunting and weekend to you too!
Hi Gattina --
Interesting comment re your family and religion! Glad you like the mosque picture -- it's actually not my favorite of it but since I already used that other picture in a previous blog entry, I went for this one instead.
Hi JC --
I've actually known people that I found it quite interesting to talk about politics and/or religion with but these are few and far between -- more's the pity, I think.
Controversial in person perhaps but not here today. People expressing their right to demonstrate and the beautiful building where people can worship God as is their right.
Have a good weekend YTSL.
The mosque is beautiful. Politics and religion...both controversial topics that evoke strong emotions.
i've attended a rally once... good thing our leader had the presence of mind to make us leave before the others went mad, people ended up washing their faces on the lake of a nearby gold course from being teargassed...
Mec
Hi jmb --
Thanks for your thoughtful comments! They're much appreciated. :)
Hi luna miranda --
Glad you think so re the mosque and agreed re the rest of your comments!
Hi mec --
Yikes, your rally doesn't sound like the fruitful or pleasant experience... BTW, your link didn't appear to lead to a Photo Hunt entry. So, sorry but I couldn't do a return Photo Hunt visit (and my, what a lot of blogs you have!).
oh ya...politics and religion..one that stir up many kinds of emotions..that is 2 topics tat i will always avoid...Great picture!
Pearl - have a good weekend!
Hi (Pato &) Pearl --
Don't always avoid talking about politics and religion... but do try to be careful who I talk about them with! ;S
They really work! The first fascinating too because of the people who are demonstrating - not your average young and hot-blooded demonstrators! The mosque looks very modern. I think I've only ever seen quite traditional architecture before.
Sorry to be so late in getting here :)
Hi A. --
Interesting, isn't it about the age of the demonstrators? Glad you spotted that. As for the mosque: There are older mosques in Penang that I actually think have nicer architecture but the state mosque is in a prime location and the sky was so nice and blue the day I took the photo...
Oh, and better late than never! :)
LOL, I can't believe you didn't point out the cheeky use of "Delay No More" on the banner!
Hi Jason --
Woaaah, you learnt quite a lot in your relatively short time in Hong Kong, didn't you? (And well, I'm trying to keep it family friendly here...) ;b
