Tributes to Leslie Cheung 20 years on

This year's installment of the Hong Kong International Film Festival began two days ago and I've viewed three of its offerings already.  At some point, I'll get to reviewing those films (as has been my usual practice for some years now).  But today, on the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong entertainment legend Leslie Cheung's passing, here's sharing photos attesting to many people still remembering and loving him after all these years.

Like as was the case last year, Hong Kong's not so finest were at the scene where fans have regularly gathered to pay tribute to the man affectionately known as "Gor Gor" (older brother).  This time around, with close to zero Covid regulations in force any longer, they couldn't shoo people away from the area by the Mandarin Oriental -- people there to remember Leslie by laying down flowers to the scene or admiring the many, often quite beautiful floral tributes that fellow fans had touchingly contributed to the scene...

Crowded sidewalks by the Mandarin Oriental this afternoon

Lots of floral tributes to Leslie Cheung
by the side of the Mandarin Oriental too

"Miss you much Leslie" 20 years on

Still loving Leslie too

Floral tribute and message from a Korean fan

A floral tribute from a fan whose favorite Leslie Cheung film

"We all need to face up to life bravely" --
a message we can all take to heart

Truly, many of the floral tributes were beautiful --
like Leslie Cheung himself (and many of his songs and movies)

Ah Leslie. He had so many good movies left to do.

Hi Brian --

...and so many songs to sing and concerts to headline too. Sad. But also amazing that 20 years on, he's remembered and loved so much still.
