Monochrome and What Sport Do You Like? (This week's Photo Hunt themes)

For the longest time, when asked "What sport do you like (best)?", my answer would be association football (AKA soccer to American English speakers).  But while I still regularly watch it -- albeit on 'live' on TV or via "livestream" video, rather than live, since my favorite football club (still, after all these sometimes frustrating years...) have their home in North London -- I haven't played it since I left Philadelphia way back in the summer of 2003.

After returning to Penang, my sport of choice to play for a time was tennis.  But my getting a frozen shoulder put paid to my tennis playing days.  So I had to find another exercise activity -- and did so in hiking, an activity and sport that I had occasionally done when I lived in the US and Britain (and also Tanzania) but really only began pursuing in earnest after moving to Hong Kong.

As regular visitors to this blog know, I not only hike a lot but also take a lot of photos when out on Hong Kong's many hiking trails.  Even so, I was surprised to find how large was the number of hike photos in my archive that looked suitable for this week's Photo Hunt themes chosen by Sandi as well as Gattina -- and in many different monochromatic hues too!

In the end, I've restricted myself to just offering up three natural monochrome photos: with the largely gray one being a landscape image that includes a sighting of the iconic Lion Rock; the green image being a close-up shot of interesting, well, greenery; and the final photo being of a brown grasshopper in a largely brown setting. :)

Ooh, nice take on the themes. I like the trio of monochromatic photos you chose.

(Though I admit that the last one, along with the the reference to sports made me think "cricket!" It's probably a grasshopper, though.)

Hi YTSL, wonderful photos for the dual themes this week. I almost chose hiking too. Cool to learn that you enjoy watching soccer. I like it too.

I also enjoy snapping photos while hiking. It's fun when you come across something that catches your attention.

Have a great weekend.

Lovely choices of natural monochrome (very clever!). I also enjoy hiking, it's just walking down the hill does not agree with my knees :(

Thanks for your visit and kind words. It's lovely to be back!
Happy weeekend.

All sports you mentioned are nothing for me, except a little tennis, lol ! I am a lazy person when it comes to sport !

Hi ewok1993 --

I think you'd enjoy hiking -- especially the photo taking bit(s)! :b

Hi Alejna --

Hehehe... I did wonder if it was a cricket too but think that's a grasshopper... ;b

Hi Trekcapri --

Sounds we have a lot of interests in common! Hope you have a good weekend too. :)

Hi Mar --

Not that clever as I'm not tech savvy enough to change color pics to monochrome! So natural monochrome pics had to do... ;b

Hi EastCoastLife --

Let me know when you come over to Hong Kong and are up for a hike. My caveat though: have to make sure you are fit, have good hiking shoes (with good tread, etc.) AND remember to bring lots of water along with you! ;b

Hi Gattina --

Funny then that you picked the sports you like theme for the Photo Hunt! :D

Great take on the themes. I like the way you used a color monochrome for the green one. To answer your question, I shot it in color and then used software to change it to black and white. I hope you're having a great weekend.

Hi Maxwell, Faraday and Allie --

You want to eat the grasshopper? In any case, it's okay to want but sorry, no chomping on any my pic subjects! ;b

Hi Sue --

Yes, I really do get very happy when I spot interesting and/or beautiful critters when out hiking -- and am happier still when I manage to get good pics of them! :)
