Lick (This week's Photo Hunt theme)

Damn you, foodie! That's what a hiking companion of mine is wont to wail at me since I often lead her after a hike straight to a place to eat something horrifically calorie-heavy -- like the Hong Kong-style French toast (with its extra thick fried bread that sags under the weight of the thick syrup and generous portion of butter laden atop it) in the upper most photo in this first entry of 2010 for tnchick's Photo Hunt.

For my part, I feel neither shame nor guilt with regards to my weakness for sweet foods whose icing comes with the inclusion of something sweet and liquidy in the mix. Instead, I lick my lips in anticipation of the culinary decadence every time -- and rather than think of the food negating the exercise that went before, I think of it in terms of the exercise allowing me to have this kind of food! ;b

And in case it's not obvious, the middle photo is of a Chinese dessert of crispy fried dough that is dipped into golden syrup before imbibing -- the red sauce near the golden syrup is chilli and was for another dish we had at that pictured meal! -- while the bottom photo is of Hong Kong style toast with butter, peanut butter and -- truly, this really is the bonus! -- sweetened condensed milk on top of the peanut butter.

So... are you licking your lips too as you read this entry? Frankly, I can't see how you can't -- especially if you have a sweet tooth (or, worse, many sweet teeth! ;D). ;b

And since this is my first very first blog entry of 2010, here's going ahead and wishing a happy new year to my readers, especially this blog's regular visitors. :)

I am definitely licking my lips at these luscuous looking desserts.

I agree with your comment on my blog. I also wonder if the food is actually more dangerous or if something else is going on in terms of how soon they are sold etc. My mom used to put raw eggs into milkshakes she made us as children. It made the milkshake so rich and delicious. Of course I never did that with my daughter because I knew better by then but we never got sick as kids off of those milkshakes, or from licking the spoon when cakes were made.

Happy New Year!

Yummy stuff. I'm licking my lips and, should I eat those delights, I would be licking my fingers :)

I have a major weakness for junk food/sweets/etc!

As far as the pix - I don't know -it was hosted on PhotoBucket but isn't in a private album or anything?? Were you not able to see it at all?? I put it on Flickr, just now.

Hi Carver --

To continue our building up immunity conversation: Years ago when I was living in Malaysia, our family had some friends come over from England. Naturally, we took them to some of our favorite eateries -- and then felt really terrible when they got sick from eating the food afterwards and also puzzled since we were fine. Later on, we got to thinking/realizing that our resistance is higher than theirs -- probably because we've been less healthy eaters generally than them. Sounds oxymoronic and yet... ;S

Hi Annie --

Hehehehe... so, I unleashed a veritable flood gate in your mouth?! ;O

Hi archiearchive --

Teeheehee at your comments but at the same time, yes, I know what you mean! :D

Hi tnchick --

Thanks much for visiting and being the person behind Photo Hunt. And yes, it'd be great if I could regularly see your photos without having to switch internet browsers to do so! :S

Hi Juliana --

No worries -- have paid a visit to your blog already! :)

Hi Colin --

Thanks for the good wishes and hope 2010 is good for you too. :)

Hi Bengbeng --

Teeheehee at your comments -- but living in Malaysia, you can't eat, eat, eat, right? ;b

Hi Anna --

Thing is that I don't have live animals around me. So... sticky food it had to be! ;D

hi ytsl,

What yummy looking foods. I licked my lips as I looked at your photos. I must say if one is going to eat this type of food Hong Kong seems like a foodie paradise.

As far as I'm concerned the best part of any meal is the dessert - by far the best part. I'd be happy to have a three course meal consisting of nothing but desserts. So, you're on to a winner if you ask me! :)

Yum! (Mine's up too)

To add to your conversation with Carver . . . Americans are told to not drink the water in Mexico, and the people who live there don't . . . but they eat things cooked in or washed in water. They don't get sick.

Personally, I believe that trying to maintain an antiseptic lifestyle only leaves you vulnerable to every new bug that comes along.

Everything looks delicious. I haven't made French Toast in ages and I think I might make it soon. The toast is also very interesting and different. I love look at different desserts.

Kim said...

Yes, I'm licking my lips as I type this. These pictures are perfect for the theme.

I'm up and playing along. Come on over when you get a moment.

Have a great weekend and Happy New Year!

Hi Criz Lai --

Have never had roti pisang... am old school, so would "just" opt for goreng pisang - and waaaah, you reminded me of another thing I didn't eat while back in Penang that I should have! ;(

Hi Surfie --

Bwahahaha at the thought of my post/pic making you think of wanting to lick your laptop! :D

Hi RJ Flamingo --

Hope the drool didn't drop onto your computer! :D

Hi sbk --

Yeah, Hong Kong is pretty good in terms of East meets West comfort food, I reckon. :D

Hi A. --

Have you been to dessert(-only) buffets? Sounds like you should! :D

Hi Bull Rhino --

Number one for a day in something is not bad, eh? ;b

Hi Eden --

Lip-licking good too... ;b

Hi Lisa --

Cooked in water I can understand -- but good spot re the "washed in water" (especially for raw items like fruit and salad). And agreed re too antiseptic a lifestyle leading one vulnerable. Ditto re over-medicating.

Hi Marta --

Re the toast with butter, peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk: it's easy enough to make. It's just that one just doesn't think of that topping combination until one sees it, right? ;b

Hi Kim --

Thanks and I have indeed gone on over. :)
