(N.B. I know that it's not yet Saturday but I putting up this Photo Hunt entry today rather than tomorrow as I'm due to be on the road quite a bit this weekend...)
When some people think of cities, they conjure up images of predominantly steely and stone cold gray landscapes. To these folks, I like to say -- and provide proof via such as the images offered up in this week's Photo Hunt entry (along with a previous Pink-themed Photo Hunt entry) -- that the metropolis that has been dubbed Asia's World City is most certainly much more colorful than that.
More specifically, the first photo in this entry offers up a shot of Nathan Road that shows off the territory's many colorful neon signs while the second is of a particularly colorful example of the small stalls that line Pottinger Street, a steep, stone-slabbed stairway over in Central that Hong Kong cinema fans will recognize as having appeared in a number of local movies (including Johnnie To's recent Sparrow (2008) and -- unless I'm much mistaken -- Jackie Chan's often criminally overlooked Mr. Canton and Lady Rose (1989)). So... colorful but also pretty cool, right? :)

I've never of think of any city to be gray or dull, even places untouched by the modern world
the second one looks like New York, we have vendors here and in Chinatown, you make one turn and there's dozens, selling just about any knockoffs ever existed, they do add colors to the city, how boring the city would look without them
Well, yes, I have to agree with you YTSL that the first image I have of "city" is of concrete buildings. Your pictures do dispel the myth, especially for me, the first one. The colour is not only literal but figurative because of my perspective - the "foreignness" is colourful too.
That's CHOW TAI FOOK signboard. Haha... They sell very expensive jewelery (= Very colourful picture (=
Hi 2lives (Lissa?) --
Glad you realize that cities can be colorful -- must say though that I've seen some cities with their share of dull gray.
Hi a. --
Agreed that "foreignness" can be colorful. Funny though... Hong Kong HAS come to feel a lot like home in the relative short time that I've lived there. So much of it's no longer foreign to me, even if still very colorful and interesting. :)
Hi Pelfy --
Hmmm, sounds like you've had personal experience of shopping at Chow Tai Fook! ;b
Very stunning street shots! I love NYC and find tons of color when I go. I was wondering if you were at the Olympics when I saw this, lol.
Hi Rho --
New York City and Hong Kong have a lot in common -- with iconic shots of them featuring skyscrapers but there being so much color to be found within the city itself. Still, if pushed to choose, for me, Hong Kong is the city with more color -- often literally. :)
Those are very colorful shots. I'm glad you gave a link to this post with your wrinkled one since I missed it and those are vibrant shots.
Hi Carver --
Thanks for checking out these photos. Must admit that I wish that the Colorful theme was for this week's Photo Hunt as I like these photos a lot and wish more people would check them out... ;b
That looks like an exciting place to live in :)
Hi Julie --
It is, it is! :)
These are so colourful! Don't know why I didn't get here last week - I missed a treat!
Hi Dragonstar --
Well, I was early in putting up the entry but late in doing my visiting rounds. Maybe you couldn't find me? If so, would suggest you bookmark my blog for next time! ;b
