Stuffed rats and Totoros

My Studio Ghibli
-- and yes, it's primarily a Totoro! -- collection

Remember when I named stuffed animal plushes as being among the ten things that make me happy? And proceeded to provide photographic and other proof, at regular intervals, of my Hello Kitty adoration (here, here, and here)? Well, now here's presenting some photographic evidence of my Totoro love... ;D

And in the event that you don't know who or what are Totoro (and need some further information to figure out which is O-Totoro, Chuu-Totoro and/or Chibi-Totoro), I suggest that you: a) check out the absolutely sublime film that is My Neighbor Totoro (AKA Tonari No Totoro) post haste; and also b) make use of the relevant links that I've included in this here post.

This way, you won't -- unlike at least one aunt of mine as well as a less short-sighted friend of the family -- mistake the gray O-Totoro (even those large and...ahem...unofficial replicas of that which I like to affectionately call "the big gray thing" that I have in my collection) for a giant rat! ;(

Additionally, if you would like to see what actual stuffed rat plushes look like, I really don't think that I can do better than direct you to this post over at collecting tokens. And should you really want to know where Alejna got her stuffed rats from, scroll down to that entry's comments section or learn from me here that the answer is -- can you believe it? -- Ikea!!! :DDDDD

Coincidentally, I just had a dinner party and I think I scared some of my guests by going on and on about My Neighbour Tortoro! I've seen it more than 20 times. It IS sublime. I agree totally.

PS All I have is a keychain of the cat bus! No stuffed Tortoros. Oh woe is me.

Are those seat belt covers I see with Totoro and green leaves? Why are they still in a plastic bag? If you don't currently have a car you can wrap them around a floor lamp or a table leg or stand then up among indoor plants for added decorative effect-all kinds of indoor uses....

Hi Daph --

"I think I scared some of my guests by going on and on about My Neighbour Tortoro!"

Surely you amused more than scared them? :D

"All I have is a keychain of the cat bus! No stuffed Tortoros."

Hmmmm...and why is this? After all, Totoros seem increasingly easier to find these days in Malaysia. E.g., I got my 2 feet tall (and wide) O-Totoro over at Mid-Valley Mall and I've seen smaller Totoros on sale at KL International Airport! :b

Hi sbk --

Yes, those are Totoro seat belt covers in a plastic bag as I'm back to being car-less again. Also, I tried to wrap at least one of them around a backpack strap but found the backpack strap to be too wide... ;(

Because they are insanely expensive that's why.

I wld rather buy books than indulge in soft toys-lah ;-)

Hi once more Daph --

"I wld rather buy books than indulge in soft toys-lah ;-)"

I, OTOH, think that there ought to be room for both in one's life. Though having said that, I am pretty much "just" attracted to Totoro, Hello Kitty and -- before she got discontinued! :( -- Winki Pinki as far as plushes and related items are concerned... ;S

Apparently I need to see "My Neighbor Totoro" post haste! Your Totoros are quite cute. The Japanese definitely know cute.

Hi Alejna --

Absolutely re your needing to see MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO post haste!

Also, here's pointing out that I think that it's the perfect first film for a kid to watch...and yes, this is the rare movie which has a very good English dub though, as a non-subtitle-phobic adult, my own preference is for the original Japanese language track. :)
