Exhitbits...

Seems like someone should have been
paying more attention when writing...

In yesterday's Photo Hunt entry, I wrote about there being some disturbing materials on display at the Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum in Stanley. As can be seen in the above photo, there's a sign within that museological institution that attempts to state precisely that.

Unfortunately, that official warning unintentionally loses some of its gravity on account of the authorities appearing to not be too proficient with their English -- or, worse, seeming to be less than completely careful folks. Not that I particularly mind, mind... since I thus find myself with one more item to add to my unintentionally funny signs photo collection! ;)

Well, even if "exhibits" was spelled correctly, the Casper-like screaming Munch heads would certainly give the impression that the exhibits are no more disturbing than a haunted house attraction!

Here's a photo I took of a funny sign from the men's bathroom at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, which at the time had an installation of jungle foliage "growing" near the toilets and urinals. While the sign lessens the intended effect of the piece, it also unintentionally comments on institutionalization of art. Remember, art is not something to be touched or picked!

Hi duriandave --

Heheh... was going to write a remark about the Munch-style cartoon heads but wondered if it was only me who saw them that way. Evidently not! :D

And teeheehee re the photo you took inside the men's room(!) of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Speaking of men's rooms: have you been inside those of The Peninsula's Felix bar? ;b

I've not yet had the pleasure of peeing at the Felix. ;D

Hi again duriandave --

Bwahaha at the way you answered my question! And I have to tell you that I've been into both the men's and women's toilets of the Felix -- because I accidentally followed a friend into the latter. A female friend, I might add... who stood in there and marvelled at the view, only for me to have to point out to her that, judging by the existence of the urinals in the room, we had got into the wrong room... (And very fortunately, the room WAS empty apart from us!) :DDD

Hi Rebeca --

That is one way to see it -- certainly! ;b
